Notre dernière journée à Paris……

Our flight was scheduled to leave at 9.pm, so we decided to get up early again, and visit the Musée du Louvre, hopefully before all the crowds….We arrived at 9am, opening time, just in time to greet dozens of others who obviously had had the same very clever idea that we did……

No matter, we had artworks to see! We’d read that, if you spent 30 seconds in front of each piece of art, or sculpture in the Louvre, it would take approximately 4 months to see everything, not including any ‘comfort’ breaks, eating or sleeping. So, with that in mind, we made a decision to just enjoy our time there. The Louvre is magnificent, there is simply no other way to describe it. Johannes Vermeer - The lacemaker (c.1669-1671).jpgThere was only one painting that I specifically wanted to see which was ‘ The Lacemaker’ by Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer.   Unfortunately for me, that part of the museum was closed!  Grrr. So, it’s a googled photo I have to show you, not one that I was able to take. I think it’s just beautiful.

With so many others to choose from however, my disappointment was short lived. We also managed the Mona Lisa ( La Joconde), but the crowd around her was so intense it was not an enjoyable experience. It was a shame too, to see many people just walking through, not stopping to take it all in or read any information about each piece. Just clicking their camera with no real understanding of what it was they were even seeing. What a waste…
