I had done a lot of research before leaving Australia, about the Camino, the history, what we might expect, weather implications and the like. Something that kept resurfacing was what the Camino gives to those who walk it. Seemed slightly odd, but I was open to whatever came my way. I thought so, anyway. Everything I read and heard, suggested that the Camino would provide what I needed.
With 6 days walking to go, it seems that apparently what I needed was blisters, a head cold, a chest infection and now, a gastric bug. Well, I’m not sure it’s a bug or a response to the food. I eat very plainly at home, so maybe it’s that, but I have been very careful in my choices here too. Whatever the cause, it’s felled me yet again.
I’ve used the enforced down time to reflect on what all of this might mean, what is it that the Camino is telling me?
Recent events suggest that perhaps I need to just slow down, smell the roses and enjoy moments. Allow myself to take the pressure off.
Or, maybe I’ve just had had the most unfortunate bad luck so far and there is no underlying reason for it at all?
My camino has involved lots of walking, but also some taxis and buses. Not what I expected, but I’ve decided that’s okay. It is what it is…
On a lighter note, I’ve attached some photos of our accommodation ‘Santa Mariña’ in Portomarin, Galicia. It’s beautiful..
