Colours of Madrid..

We’ve been here for a few days now and have loved every bit of it. The ‘hop on, hop off’ bus trip was perfect to get an over view of this beautiful city and we took full advantage. Since then we have pounded the pavements, strolled the avenues and sat back in cafes, sipping many a café con leche..

Plaza de Espana and the monument to Cervantes, the author of the book Don Quixote de La Mancha. The bronze sculptures in the front are of Don Quixote and his squire, Sancho Panza. In the book, after reading too many romantic novels, Don Quixote lost his sanity and rode throughout Spain, trying to revive chivalry and right all wrong doings.  He even attempted to joust with windmills, mistaking them for giants..

In Puerto del Sol, we found the indicator used for the calculation of all distances in Spain. Based on our experience on the Camino, where the kilometres advised were invariably under quoted by 3-5klms in every section, perhaps they need to get their measuring tapes out again and do a double check?
