Where oh where can my Wifi be..?

Or WeeFee, as it’s pronounced here in France, but back to that, later..

So, we are now the proud and very happy owners of our little house in France! Our meeting with the notaire went without a hitch and apparently, was the fastest completion in the history of French completions! We were done and dusted within an hour, but as our appointment had been scheduled for 11am and lunchtime being all important here in France, we thought Monsieur Le Notaire had been told by Madame, to make sure he would not be late for his midday repas…and he wasn’t, not on our account, anyway.

We’ve been crazy busy since, but little by little our house is feeling like ours. As for the wifi, we are still not connected, so I’m sitting at our local LeClerc at the moment, borrowing theirs. Apparently, it will be sorted by Saturday, but in the meantime it’s a bit like having been dropped off the end of the earth. I’m happy though, that I managed to organise our internet access in French since, as those who know me well will attest, my IT knowledge amounts to turning a computer off and on again, if things aren’t working as they should.  After that I have no idea and the related vocabulary even in English, is scratchy to say the least. However, perhaps I should wait until Saturday to see what arrives, before I get too smarty pants about it!

It seems such a lifetime ago that we left Brisbane and yet it has been a few weeks only. So much has happened during that time and we have been sooo busy, but we feel great and, while some may consider our decision to purchase a home here to be a impetuous or risky, we are both even more comfortable in having done so. Life is short.

Life in Montmorillon is fabulous. For a small(ish) rural town, there is certainly a lot going on. Spring has arrived and, while it is still very cold, there is an air of enthusiasm and it feels like the town is waking up after what, from all accounts, was a very long, wet and freezing winter. This culminated in the ‘Carnevale de Montmoriilon’ on Saturday, which involved the whole town dressing up in costumes and generally having a great time. I think the ‘Carnevale’ was the first of many festivals and fêtes that abound during the warmer months, both here in Montmorillon and throughout France generally. We’ll be sorry to miss them, but this year in July (Summer in France) we have the wonderful wedding of our daughter, Rhiannon and her parter, Tim, to attend, which is right at the top of our priority list and which we are so excited about. Summer fêtes can wait until next year. And, in amongst our travel and wedding plans, there is the small matter of work to fit in! 2018 will be a busy year indeed!

On Saturday night, after the Carnevale celebrations, we headed to ‘La Commerce’ a local bar here in town. A local band, ‘The Rocking Boys’ we’re playing and, with Rockabilly music being their forte, it was a toe tapping night from the moment we arrived. They are a clearly a very popular group, as the place was jam packed and the resulting atmosphere was ‘fantastique’. We had a great time and even better, home was only a short 5 minute walk way, so we were tucked up in bed in our very cosy little house by 1am. It was a great night out and some necessary down time, in amongst our many forays for house related items and/ or services.

Bisous

Karen
