How do I love thee? Let me count the ways…

Elizabeth Barrett Browning had it right. We’ve travelled throughout many regions in France over the years, but every time we arrive, the depth of our love for this place, is reinforced, yet again..

1. The gardens, the flowers..

To be fair, the fascination with anything gardening related is mine, but Jeff is very good about waiting for me to take, yet another, flowery photo…

Fortunately, the bitey insects that took such a fancy to me in the Spring, must have started their hibernation, so I’ve been able to take full advantage of our Autumn garden. I’m guessing that dousing myself from head to toe with tropical strength Rid, perhaps may have helped me ‘faire le jardinage’ without injury, too…

2. The food and (bien sûr!), the wine.

Moules-Frites..Jeff’s happy place…

3. The absolutely spectacular countryside, pretty villages and the history..

4. Brocante treasures..

This trip, we’ve added a few extra brocante finds, which are really helping to make our house feel homely, but it’s not just the finding, it’s the searching that I also love. Poking about in a dusty shed, or browsing at a brocante is a wonderful way to while away a few hours. An antique umbrella stand, an old wire and rattan shelf, some old, ornate mirrors, a candelabra from a château, some very old French grammar books dated in the 1800’s, an old copper milk jug and a sweet little painting, have all found their way to our house while we’ve been here this time.

5.Our little house..

We are enamoured, it’s as simple as that. There’s walls I want to paint, curtains I’ll make, some pieces of furniture to replace, but there’s no rush. It’s comfortable and calm and we love it.

6. And, by far and away the most important of all, it’s the friends we’ve made and the people we meet..

..and they deserve a blog post all of their own.

    1. Thanks, it’s feeling much ‘warmer’ now, thanks to the not necessarily useful, but pretty bits and.pieces. You really need to come over and come brocanté hunting with us. Even if you don’t buy anything, it’s just a great day out. You’d love it, I think..

  2. Karen, you’ve done it! You’re an inspiration for all of us who dream of one day living in France. Just shows what setting a goal and working towards it can produce. So happy for you. Katrina. Xx

    1. Bonjour! I should say the same to you, the person whe dreamt of her own French language school, worked so hard, and now has a very successful one, not to mention the immersion trips to France and Morocco, which look just brilliant. We wouldn’t have bought a house in France, if I’d never started French lessons with you, so I have so much to thank you for. I’d love to catch up for coffee, when we’re back, if you’re up for it?
